North Branch and North Shore Channel

This tour is one in a small series focused on the question:

How many playgrounds can you visit without crossing a road?

This is another playground tour confined by the arbitrary constraint that these playgrounds must be accessible without crossing a road, street, driveway, boulevard, or another car-centric pathway. All of these playgrounds are connected by the paths that run by the North Shore Channel. These paths allow you to visit both playgrounds in River Park and all four playgrounds in Legion Park without crossing a street.

Playground

River Park - West Playground

Start at the River Park West playground and then head south through the park - cross the river at Argyle and stay on the sidewalk.

You will be frustratingly close to Ronan Park playground but - alas - it is inaccessible without crossing the street.]

Playground

River Park - East Playground

Enjoy Chicago's only waterfall (where the North Branch meets the North Shore Channel) and then head to the River Park East playground.

Playground

Legion Park - South Playground

After crossing the Foster Ave. underpass, all of Legion Park lays ahead of you. The Legion Park South playground is first.

Playground

Legion Park - East Playground

North of Bryn Mawr - obvioulsy using the underpass - is the East Playground with an old school 'merry go round.'

Playground

Legion Park - North Playground

The underpass at Peterson might be tempting - and it does provide car-free access to a Starbucks - but sadly no more playgrounds. Keep on the south side of Peterson on the sidewalk to get to the last playground.

Playground

Legion Park - West Playground

Once you are on the west side of the North Shore Channel, look out for the last playground.

[The playground at Hollywood Park is frustratingly close but - again - would involve crossing a street.]

Once again 6 playgrounds are accessible without setting foot on a street.

Here is a map of the tour with two additional options that are quite nearby.
